About Austin:

Hi, my name is Austin and I have lived in the shelter almost my entire life.  I started in a different shelter as a happy-go-lucky puppy who loved being around people, children and dogs.  I was adopted to a man when I was young and started what I thought was going to be my happily-ever-after, but at approximately 1 year of age, I was left tied outside of shelter because he did not want me anymore.  My life with him was not good, and although I can’t communicate what exactly he did to me, I show clear signs of abuse. I am terrified of loud noises and fast movements; and I will cringe and back away if I have reason to think I may be hit. I also flatten like a pancake when people hold things that look like sticks and handles around me. Although I am finally getting the love and attention I deserve, my past is evident, and I take a few meetings before I feel comfortable around new people.  Fortunately, I am very capable of being “man’s best friend” if you have patience and time as I get to know you. For the people that do know, I crave attention and will instantly throw myself on my back for as many belly rubs as you’re able to give me. My tail loves to wag with happiness, and I love being scratched everywhere. I do learn quickly with positive reinforcement, and with proper introductions, I enjoy playing with other dogs. I am a snuggle bug and give nice kisses! So if you are at a point in your life where you need a loyal companion and are willing to take some time to build a relationship, I am the dog for you!  I will love you and be your loyal companion to the end!
